Abstract


This studywilldiscuss therole ofthe World Bankinsupport ofthe privatization ofthe watersectorin Indonesia.Commencement ofwaterprivatizationinIndonesiain 1998at the initiative ofthe World Bankoffer loans.Water resourcessectorreformprocessbeganin1999.This processbegins withsetting upthenewwaterresources lawto replace theWaterAct.DraftWaterManagement ActemergedasaprerequisiteWorldBankloan.Data collection techniquesusedin this studyisamulticase study.Under pressurefromthe WorldBank, the Indonesiangovernmenttogetherwiththe World Banksince 1998put together a programstructuring ofwaterinIndonesiaisdraftinglegislationWater Resourcesin whichthesetof policiesin themanagement ofthewatersectorincluderegulatoryandinstitutionalframework,managementwatersheds andirrigation.Ifpreviouslytheprivatesectoris onlyinvolvedin theexploitationandmanagement ofdrinkingwater,water resources lawallows theprivate sector's rolein allareas ofwater,ofwater supply,drinkingwater,untilthefulfillment ofthe rawwaterfor agriculture.Keywords:waterprivatizationIndonesia,the WorldBank,internationalorganization theory,the concept ofeconomicprivatization,water resources law.
